FAB PRO Skin and Nail Certification is HERE!
FAB Professionals is the exclusive provider of Prometric’s National Certification for Nail and Skin professionals in Florida. In response to last years vetoed cosmetology bill, which sought to increase hours and require an examination for skin and nail technicians, FAB launched the voluntary FAB PRO National Nail and Skin Certification so that students will be better prepared, more marketable and obtain licensure in other states more easily. FAB understands that Florida’s students need to be able to compete with other professionals on a national level and the National Exam sets the industry standard.
FAB invites any school in Florida that wants to make the FAB PRO Certification available on site to call 850-580-4064 to schedule a testing date. In order to pass, students must score at least a 75%. Anyone who receives a passing score on the examination will receive a certificate stating that he/she has met the standards of a FAB PRO Nationally Certified professional.
The FAB PRO certification for nail and skin professionals will cost $60 for members of the association and $75 for non-members. FAB will provide registered students with materials needed to prepare for the exam and FAB will proctor the exam on location to ensure fairness in the administration of the exam. Tests will be scored by the Prometric, the test developer.
This national certification will immediately provide an edge to professionals entering the workforce or those who are already practicing.
To find out more about being certified or schedule an examination date at a school, please call FAB Professionals at (850) 580-4064.

FAB Partners with Minardi Color Perfect Lighting System for Green Conscious Certification Program. FAB Members Receive 10% Rebate!
FAB Professionals recently teamed up with Minardi Color Perfect Lighting System from Eco-Lite in an effort to help showcase energy-efficient or waste reducing products and services that will help salons move towards becoming a more green conscious business and save money on their utility bills.
Minardi Color Perfect Lighting System was designed to be the eco-friendly alternative for salons that do not wish to sacrifice illumination over lower wattage or more energy efficient bulbs that do not accurately reflect color brilliance. The beauty of the Minardi System is that the lights accurately illuminate the brilliance and clarity of the salon-created hair color while using considerably less energy than other lighting. Additionally, the lights produce less heat and must only be changed every few years instead of every few months saving salons hundreds or even thousands of dollars per year.
FAB launched the FAB PRO Green Conscious Salon Certification in the Fall of 2008 in an effort to help encourage salons to become more eco-friendly, energy efficient while also encouraging a reduction of waste. FAB is now going even farther by providing salons, spas and schools even more resources by directing them to businesses that market salon-specific products and services that will help Florida’s salons become more green conscious.
FAB is offering its members a 10% instant rebate for the purchase of any Minardi Color Perfect Lighting fixtures. Additionally, using Minardi Color Perfect Lighting qualifies as one of the required Salon-Specific Activities in the application. For a free salon analysis or to purchase Minardi Products please call 800-345-9652 or visit Eco-Lite online at www.eco-lite.com. When ordering you must say that you are an FAB member and the 10% rebate will be instantly applied to the cost of the fixtures.
Become a FAB PRO Certified Green Conscious Salon.
Is your salon green conscious? Would you like for your salon to carry the FAB PRO Green Conscious Salon Certification?
FAB invites all Florida salons to go green by becoming a FAB PRO Certified Green Conscious Salon. This certification is an effort initiated by FAB Professionals to encourage and promote green consciousness in the beauty industry. Not only can salons decrease their carbon footprint and contribute to a healthier Planet, but they can also save money with lower utility bills by implementing greener technology and attract new, green-conscious consumers.
This is a self-certification program that requires salons to meet certain minimum standards in order to qualify. Once qualified, the certified salons will receive a window decal indicating that the salon is a FAB PRO Certified Green Conscious Salon, a listing on the FAB Web site and a marketing kit to promote your business to the public as having met the standards as a FAB PRO Certified Green Conscious Salon.
In order to qualify, a salon must demonstrate successful completion of criteria in three areas: communication, commitment and waste reduction. A salon must also demonstrate the completion of two additional green activities and one salon-specific green activity.

Are you feeling like your salon can’t afford good advertising in today’s economy? FAB knows how important marketing is to your business and we have some solutions to help you promote your business, such as news releases for your salon. Here are some other ideas about how you can use the internet to market your salon.
- Your Web site is at the core of your marketing efforts. It's where you showcase your talents. Chances are you have one -- now it needs to be better. Search engine optimization boosts your online search rankings. An optimized site gets more clicks. It also allows you to target a region. In this manner, only people who are close enough to be your customers will see your listing online.
- Your site must also have features to keep users coming back. Let them schedule online, offer coupons, or send out news letters. In fact, a news letter is integral to your salon marketing internet strategy. It allows you to connect with each client one on one through style tips and articles. If you offer great content, your readers will look forward to hearing from you every day, week or month. Smart salon owners include coupons and special offers. A news letter shows how good you are. It also gives clients a reason to buy from you.
- Directory listings are a good way to boost search engine rankings. Beware, because some "directories" are link farms that can hurt your rankings. Ask other businesses and salon directories to include a link to your salon. Google and Yellow Pages both offer free listings. Many other sites offer listings as well. Do your research on the site before posting. If done correctly, pay per click ads can also boost your business.
- Google, Microsoft and others provide internet advertising options to fit any budget. Most allow your salon marketing internet strategy to focus on a regional area so you are not wasting your ad dollars. Ads are keyword-based and most ad servers offer tools to optimize your campaign. This way you can tweak your ads to get better results. You only pay when someone clicks your ad.
Success depends on trial and error. Track your returns to see what works. Focus on what is successful and you will be able to maximize your return on investment (ROI). If you would like additional assistance, FAB offers internet marketing services to members. FAB can help you set up a low cost internet-marketing portfolio and help you better optimize your site.
Taking the steps listed above will start your campaign on the right track. Like any other business, salons can make money from online marketing if done correctly. Long term campaigns can be successful if you pay attention. Sometimes even the smallest change can make a big difference on the internet.

New Career Ideas To Keep Your Job Fun!
Unlike other careers, cosmetology is a stable and growing industry. This will not be an industry that can be outsourced or phased out from today's economy. A graduate from a cosmetology school can utilize the skills from their cosmetology courses anywhere, working flexible hours and even creating opportunities for self-employment. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in 2006, there were just over 600,000 career cosmetologists. By 2016, the Bureau of Labor Statistics expects that number to increase to almost 700,000. This number includes hairstylists and barbers, but there are other kinds of jobs you can get after graduation. Here are just a few options:
Florida
Cosmetology
School Instructor
After you have completed your cosmetology degree, you can begin teaching your own cosmetology classes. Contact FAB for instructor opportunities, exam prep instructions, testing proctors, etc.
Cruise or Luxury Resort Stylist
If you love to travel in style, you can work in the exciting cruise or resort circuit. In these environments, you can enjoy the warm weather climates ofFloridaor the
Caribbean while using your cosmetology license to work with people who are on vacation. Cruises and resorts offer relaxed atmospheres and attractive salaries to their employees.
Stylist for the Rich and Famous
Next toCalifornia,
Florida is a hot spot where many famous actors, models, or other wealthy individuals live and work. You can be on the cutting edge of creativity, using the latest trends, techniques, and styles on people who are interested in standing out from everyone else. You may have the opportunity to travel with your clients and provide them with individual attention as they conduct their business in the entertainment industry.
Corporate Manager in a Cosmetics Company
Once you have received your license, you can begin to move up a corporate ladder. Secure a high paid management position with a large cosmetics company and focus on the business end of cosmetology. Some people prefer to work on the business end of the industry rather than to work with customers every day. With a cosmetology degree, you have the option of choosing which you prefer.
Owner of Your Own Salon
Launching your own business can be a risky, yet rewarding experience. You can take all of the cosmetology training you received in FL cosmetology school and use it to your own salon. You can work with customers if you choose to, or focus primarily working behind the scenes. By owning your own business, you can set your own hours, choose who you want to work with and choose the products and services your business will offer.
A Stylist for Nursing Homes
Having their hair and makeup done can be the highlight of the day for elderly adults living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Sometimes stylists work in on-site salons or sometimes stylists move around to work at different facilities, as long as the stylist is working under a licensed salon. This can be an immensely rewarding cosmetology career experience because active seniors still very much value the individual attention a stylist can offer. This is a great resource for building relationships and bolstering someone’s self-image.
A Stylist for Funeral Homes
While this may not be the most enticing career option after completing your cosmetology program, people are needed in the funeral services industry in every city across the country. This can also be a gratifying cosmetology career experience because you are serving not only the person who has passed away, but also the grieving family.
There are numerous job possibilities for you after you complete your cosmetology training and education. FAB Professionals is always looking for self-motivated, energetic and highly-knowledgeable sales representatives to generate new salon/school memberships. This is a great opportunity for stylists to make some additional income while still working in the industry. A member sales representative is offered an opportunity to work and grow in the industry and get paid for it!
